What a question looks like
3. Which Act incorporates the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law?
- A. The Freedom Act 2000
- B. The Equality Act 2010
- C. The Human Rights Act 1998
- D. The Civil Rights Act 1965
Answer: C — The Human Rights Act 1998
The Human Rights Act 1998 incorporates the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law, protecting freedom of thought and belief.
The answer sits directly under each question, so cover it with a card or your thumb on the first pass.
Three things to know before you rely on it
- These are not the real test questions. Nobody publishes those — not us, not gov.uk, not any site claiming to have them. These are practice questions covering the same handbook material, written in our own words.
- gov.uk does not offer a free questions PDF. If you were looking for an official one, it does not exist. The official handbook is sold as a book.
- The handbook is still the source of truth. You will not be asked about anything outside it. This PDF covers the same ground and is free, but it is a study aid, not a replacement.
How to use it
Reading the explanations is worth more than re-reading the questions. Most people who fail do so on dates, numbers and names — precisely what does not stick from one read-through. The pass mark is 75%, which is 18 of 24, so six wrong is still a pass; the gap is usually small and specific.
Work through one chapter at a time rather than front to back. Chapter 3 alone is 255 questions — more than a third of the file — and it is where most marks are won and lost.
Or practise online instead
The PDF is for reading offline, on the bus, or printed. For actually testing yourself, the site is better — it marks you, remembers what you got wrong, and times you:
- Timed practice test — 24 questions, 45 minutes, like the real thing
- All 651 questions online, with explanations
- The study guide — all five chapters
- The quiz game — for when reading is not working
Study hints are available in ten languages: العربية, বাংলা, Español, हिन्दी, Polski, Română, Українська, اردو and 中文.
Please share it
You are welcome to print this, email it, put it on a noticeboard, or hand it to anyone preparing for the test. If you teach ESOL or run a community group, take as many copies as you need — that is what it is for.
We ask one thing: keep the file complete and unaltered, so people can see where it came from.
