4.1.1 UK population, ethnic diversity and migration

The UK has a population of over 67 million people. England has the largest population of the four countries, followed by Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The population has become increasingly diverse, with people from many different ethnic backgrounds. About 14% of the population were born outside the UK.

The UK is a multicultural society. People of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, African, Caribbean, and many other backgrounds have settled in Britain. The largest ethnic minority groups are of South Asian origin. Census data shows that the proportion of the population identifying as White British has decreased, while other ethnic groups have grown.
