After World War II, Britain needed workers to help rebuild the country. People from the Caribbean, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other Commonwealth countries were invited to come to Britain. In 1948, the ship HMT Empire Windrush brought one of the first large groups of Caribbean migrants to Britain. This generation became known as the 'Windrush generation'.
