1.3.1 About the test format

The Life in the UK test is a computer-based test that you must pass to apply for ILR or British citizenship. The test consists of 24 questions and you have 45 minutes to complete it. You need to answer at least 75% of the questions correctly (18 out of 24) to pass.

The questions are based on the official handbook 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents'. Topics covered include UK values and principles, UK history, traditions and culture, and the government and law. Questions are multiple choice, and some may have more than one correct answer.

You must book your test online and take it at an official test centre. You need to bring a valid form of photo identification. If you fail the test, you can book another attempt, but you must wait at least seven days before retaking it. There is a fee each time you take the test.
