3.4.2 The Act of Union 1707

1 paragraphs · 3 questions

In 1707, the Act of Union joined the kingdoms of England and Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain. The Scottish Parliament was abolished, and Scottish MPs joined the Parliament at Westminster. Scotland kept its own legal and education systems and its own Presbyterian Church (the Kirk). The union was partly driven by Scotland's financial difficulties after the failed Darien scheme.
